Glenmuick Parish Church
Glenmuick apparently means a valley frequented by swine. We didn't see any swine during our visit to Ballater today. It was cold and bright, but no swine in sight. We did take a longish walk around the perimeter of Ballater golf course after having stopped in a cafe for a bowl of soup.
It was not obvious to me why the church is so named, but apparently it was built in around 1758 when the parishes of Glenmuick, Tullich & Glengairn were united, the old churches were abandoned, and the new church in Ballater replaced them. Although the church is dated 1798, the building shown in the photograph dates from 1874, when this rather grander structure replaced the original church.
