Freshford village
is just south of Bath and we visited to hear its history and walk around its hilly parts with the Discovering villages group. This is taken from the churchyard - notice how far the rector lived from the church bells and clock way up behind the brewery tower. When a parson took over his parsonage was built just below the church in the nearest house. There were lots of mills for the weaving industry - and one mill owner employed over 1000 people in the C18. The population of the village now is 2,400 - mostly retired or commuters to Bath and Bristol on the local railway so probably less than when the industrious mills were working. The two local breweries worked till after WW11 and in the picture you can see one and its chimney. The owner lived in the posh Bath style house to the left of the picture. Had the AGM for my building here tonight and managed to find 16 seats for everyone - bit knackered but thanks for all your lovely comments and stars
