Mount Cook
Backblip
Sorry, but no wi-fi access on 22 Nov.
We left Christchurch this morning and travelled to The Hermitage Hotel at Mount Cook. A few highlights on the way included the delightfully named Geraldine, Burkes Pass and the Mackenzie Basin, named after a rogue of a Scotsman!
A stop at Lake Tekapo rewarded us with a quick glimpse of an Asian couple’s wedding (possibly the first step in many ceremonies) and a stunning view across the vasr lake of our destination, Mount Cook.
Only 20% of visitors get to see it in glorious sunshine so we were extremely lucky that we have had wall to wall sunshine since arriving on the west coast.
We passed on the optional helicopter flight over the mountains, though the few who did go said it was an amazing experience.
Our room at the hotel had a stunning view of Mount Cook and a balcony to sit out and admire it. I even got up early in the morning to catch the sunrise touching the peak! See extra.
We are running out of superlatives to describe this beautiful country, which we are seeing at its very best:-)
