Family Affair

When my late mother-in-law, J, was alive, we often used to go for Sunday lunch at a family hotel on the other side of York.

J had coeliac disease and back then, there were few places to get a really good choice on the menu of gluten-free stuff, but this place was one of them.

It was a bit "Fawlty Towers" and the owner (lovely guy actually) always used to greet us, rather, obsequiously with an announcement that there was lamb shank on the menu.

Not so much that none of the girls liked lamb; more the way he said it. There inevitably followed much (scarce-hidden) hilarity...
