Barbary dove having a snack in a friend's garden. Streptopelia risoria or African ring-necked dove is the domesticated form of the African collared dove ( S. roseogrisea ) and is a native of North East Africa. The small populations in NZ are thought to be derived from escapees from aviaries as historical introductions were unsuccessful.
