Halfway there
When we drive over to see my Mum in Olney, Buckinghamshire, we stop roughly halfway there to swop drivers. A good place to do this is Chipping Norton, where there is a nice independent bookshop which also serves coffee and cake.
Chipping derives from an old word meaning market. This is the town hall in Chipping Norton. It dates from 1857, and used to have lock-ups for prisoners underneath - now converted into loos! The weathervane is a foxhound - of course foxhunting is now against the law in the UK.
