Watchmen
A drive to Hughenden Manor today for a walk. We haven't done it for years and had forgotten how wonderful the grounds and woodlands are - as well as the house.
This sculpture struck me. Commissioned in 2014 by the National Trust, Ed Elliot (http://www.edelliott.co.uk/) created a series of figurative sentinels, based on the significant military history of Hughenden Manor. They were carved on tress which grew on site at Hughenden and installed back into the land to suggest that they were rooted here. These "watchmen" gave a silent presence to the parkland between July - November 2014. This figure remains as a tribute to the project.
A lovely walk followed through the beech woods, and then back past the cafe where this robin was doing a bit of a scavenge for crumbs left around the outside tables.
A lovely day!
