Franz Josef Glacier

Backblip due to rubbish wifi in hotel:-)

Photo today is courtesy of T J and when I saw the shots he had taken, I was very relieved that I had stayed behind. I’d never have made it up the steep hill, never mind across the boulder field, which reminded me of the top section of Schiehallion:-). No wonder some of the walkers were having second and thitd thoughts about it, but they all made it to the glacier and back safely, so well done to them!

I wandered round the few shops in Franz Josef and had a good coffee and muffin, so enjoyed myself in a less strenuous way!

A delicious lunch when the walkers returned and then it was back on the bus to our next hotel in Greymouth. Mile upon mile of sub tropical trees and bushes lined the road and we crossed dozens of rivers and streams, one of them on a covered bridge used for both road and rail vehicles!

A quick stop en route to visit a whitebait stall, where the owner sold us freshly made patties of this great delicacy. Maybe it is for Kiwis, but the look of the slimy mix and the smell of it was enough to put me off, so I’ll never know what I missed:-)

Our hotel in Greymouth was adequate, with the exception of the wifi, which kept logging you out before you’d even started to use it, so after three requests to Reception for a new code, I gave up!
