Glen Tanar Estate
Since 1905 the Glen Tanar Estate is owned by the Coats family of Paisley. The estate covers 25,000 acres and was formed in 1865 when a merchant banker from Manchester bought the land from the Marquis of Huntly. Brooks made many changes to the glen: he built houses and bridges which still stand.
The photograph shows St. Lesmo's Chapel built in 1872. it is still in use and can be hired for weddings. Unfortunately it was locked at the time of my visit so I could not have a look inside.
Previously the community of Braeloine stood on this site, it included a number of farmhouses, an inn, shops and 15 houses. By the end of the 19th century the village was deserted and the buildings in ruins. The chapel stands on the site of centre of the community.
