Surprise visitor!

As we came home from town this morning, we were stopped by the post van, and the driver warned us of a seal that he'd had to avoid, on the road in the village.

It's was a grey seal pup, and it was up on the grass opposite our house when we got home.  Difficult to see, but there is a three foot drop just behind him, down onto the beach below.  They usually find they way back, the way they came up, so we left him alone, and pretty soon he found his way down the slip way and away he went.

Later in the afternoon Ollie and I found another one, this time on the other side of the road, up beside B&J's garage.  As it was just about dark, J & I barricaded it in with a couple of garden benches so it wouldn't venture back over the road while folk were coming home from work.  It's a single track road, with a steep drop to the sea on the other side!

We rang Ross at the Seal Rescue Centre and he came along and gave it the once over.  It is a bit more battered than this one, but is big and fat and healthy looking, so he said to leave it be and let it find its own way back to the sea in the morning, when it was light.  J and I will be on road crossing patrol!  I shall have my camera with me - but shall leave Ollie at home!
