~Say's Phoebe~
~Sayornis saya~
This little beauty is taking a rest on a dormant Ocotillo branch. He is a type of Flycatcher that is common to my area. I could watch these birds for hours and have done so. Quite the acrobats when on the hunt. When attempting to catch their insect prey they will swoop and glide, rise and fall, twist and turn, tumble and corkscrew, then rotate and readjust. Their flight is so unpredictable, contorted and distorted, but because of all their fancy wing work their accuracy is uncanny. I do believe they are having a great time and getting dinner is almost secondary to they aerobatic delights.
Doing well today, TucsonJim ;o)
