Autumn Trees

The present high pressure over the north of the British Isles is conning us into thinking that we have these cold mornings with sunshine slanting through the trees across the frosted grass as a permanent feature of autumn

Unfortunately not so, as the weather people are warning us. It seems that we may have one day of sunshine left before the rain rolls in from the west on Thursday.

This means that while we may have amazing views of the countryside as we train up the West Highland Line from Glasgow to Mallaig tomorrow, we will have a wet Thursday in which to while away the hours with grey seas and sodden seagulls.

I think as a diversion, I may have to follow in the wake of Charles Edward Stuart and sail over the sea to Skye, but with his Lordship rather than the Bonnie Prince, and CalMac rather than Flora MacDonald.

In other matters, I was delighted last night that my book group and I were in agreement about The Stranger's Child, by Alan Hollinghurst.
Apart from finding it overly long and  boring, we were amazed that the author could find so many gay  men with whom to fill the pages.
However we were in agreement that the cake produced by our hostess was well worth the ennui of the read.

My cake turn next. Now there's a worry.
