Black and Blue......
It's been far too long since I've visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.....6 long months in fact.... so how enjoyable it was to visit today with the blipping fab company of 60Plus. It was chilly, I threw my sandwich all over the cafe floor and the first exhibition we saw (about the stark and harrowing side of photojournalism) quite left us with sunken hearts.....but apart from that... what a brilliant time was had! Loved all the new installations, the place is never the same twice... and it's always so quirky and thought provoking.
An art installation here by Zak Ove called 'Black and Blue'. The army of 40 stern faced figures, all holding their hands up, have African influence with references to the 'Black Lives Matter' protest movement.
First extra is an installation of trees, planted in 1 metre cubed boxes, called 'The Garden of Good and Evil' by Alfredo Jaar. This refers to 'black sites', the secret detention facilities operated by the US CIA around the world, you will see the 'jail cell' amongst the trees.
And then my second extra is a Rat's head on a stick..... there were 12 animals.... all the symbols of The Chinese New Year..... I'm a dragon by all accounts.
Wow what a place, ahhhhh what a lovely day...... thank you so much C :) xxx
(PS, sorry for writing so much..... I do love that place! )
