Orangutan Melur
Today was supposed to be warm, but I found it just very pleasant. The easterly wind seemed to keep the temperature down at a reasonable level. We biked the track out at the Waimakariri River, then visited Orana Park to see the newly arrived orang-utans. There is a large male, and two females, who are easy to tell apart. They seem to be staying with us only temporarily, while their permanent home in Auckland is renovated, so hopefully we well get more when they go home again, as they are amazing to watch. The orang-utans could use some shade trees, and perhaps a shade sail in the interim, as the bright sun is not quite what these forest animals are used to.
