The Edge of the Wold

The nose

There was nothing subtle about the sunset this evening, and it was an enduring one. There was still colour in the clouds 45 minutes after the sun went down. This is the view from Park Point across to the nose of Humphrey Head projecting into Morecambe Bay. Although there were curlews bubbling out there somewhere, the Bay appeared to be almost empty of birds - not even a single redshank in sight and still no sign of Harry the heron.

After two walks with Gus over the Knott, and a splash around Leighton Moss in the morning, it was tempting to stay at home and have another cup of tea. I was very tired. A sheet of cloud was creeping across the sky, and although our view west from the house is obscured by the Knott, I had a feeling that there might be a gap in the clouds on the horizon. I was glad we made the effort, and Gus had himself a third walk in a short daylight day.
