TREASURE

Inspired by "The Detectorists", B asked for a metal detector as an early Christmas present, and brought it with us to practise using it in Mum's garden. Here's his first haul, so he was very pleased. The enamel pendant says Catford Greyhound Racing Club, and has the number 49 on the back, and is dated 1932, which is when the Club opened (we found out when we looked it up). The original owner must have been among the very first members, and keen, since Catford is about 25 or 30 miles away. We don't know what the iron fragment with a star pattern on it is, possibilities are part of an old drain or manhole cover, or coal hole cover, or an insurance company plaque (though I don't favour that one), and the strip is lead.

Thankfully, he didn't come across any of the many pet burials with associated collars which have taken place during the history of the garden.
