Rothko Gallery

This morning we drove to Boston.  We had a brief visit to the Museum of Fine Arts (MfA), where the highlight was a small but totally absorbing exhibition of 11 paintings by Mark Rothko (1903-1970), on loan for nine months from the National Gallery in Washington.  I hope this image gives some impression of the silent, immersive mood in the gallery (don't miss it against the dark background--click the double arrows). Rothko may be my favorite American painter. We'll probably return to the MfA tomorrow--more then.  Afterwards we went to the MIT Museum in Cambridge, where I talked with the curator of collections about my father's papers.
