New followers.......!

Posting on Saturday morning because....

We were up at 5.30am to leave by 6 to get to the hospital by 7 for a long-awaited procedure for D. Parking charges are extortionate so we took the car part way then caught a bus. Gosh...it was dark cold and deserted out there! Shows just how out of touch I am with the "working week" in winter.

Wonderfully, we soon learnt the operation would happen today AND D was second on the list, so no long hours of hanging around waiting. I watched him go through to the theatre and was told the expected time for both the operation and recovery and given a number to call in three hours time. Time for a coffee and something to eat....

In the end and for several reasons, these three hours became five and  it was suggested I came home and call later to learn ward and bed details. I spoke to D and he sounded very sleepy but comfortable, so I DID come home. I walked the 3 miles home. With hindsight and a few raised eyebrows  maybe not too clever an idea as some roads along the common have no real pavements just grass edges and I think I may have looked slightly mad to some in cars who passed me... I felt perfectly safe. I had got chilled again while sitting the hours out in the hospital, saw the bus I needed drive by and I really intended to just walk to the next stop rather than stand waiting for the next one. But I kept on walking......!

I needed milk and bread and having bought that I walked through a small park with a pond on my way back to where we'd parked the car. Suddenly I had a big fan club of noisy ducks! They were very persistant too and almost followed me to the park gate. The smell of the fresh loaf obviously!

D looked good when I visited. A few tubes and wires, clips and sticky tape but at last this procedure has happened and we are delighted. Ten months in the waiting. He will see the surgeon in the morning and hopefully get discharged and I will get the call to collect him.

This of course will put paid to tennis, swimming, long walks for a while. THAT will be more of a challenge!

It's the beginning of Advent too! A precious time of expectation and preparation. I'll get the Advent candle arches down from the loft. I love those....
