Pink Butterflies

I walk past this shop front most days.  I love the arched windows, the detail in the frames, the floor tiles, and the lamp which hangs over the door.  Its loveliness extends to the wall paper which adorns the back walls of the shop front windows - it features little pink butterflies.  I wonder what goods the shop has sold over the years.  I'd love to bring this place back to life again.  May be one day, or perhaps someone else will fall for its loveliness and have an innovative way to make it useful to the community again.

An overcast but still day.  Not too cold when busy outside.  We went to the allotment and were pleased to see the grass and weeds seem to have stopped growing.  We came back with a harvest of leeks, purple carrots and Swiss chard.  After a hot cup of tea we moved in to the garden and spent several hours raking up leaves, pruning and weeding.  A curry for dinner and the crossword to follow!

I've been watching and enjoying the BBC series The Bombs That Changed Britain.  Each programme focuses on the effects of a single bomb that fell during the Blitz - on the lives of people in the local community right through to its impact on the war itself.  This week the episode featured the city of Hull and next week its focus is Clydebank, Scotland.  It makes me think of my grandparents, their experiences of WW2, and what a deep and lasting impression it must have made on their lives.
