Devil’s Bridge, Kirkby Lonsdale

Left Glenridding around 10.30 bound for Booths in Windermere to collect some local beer supplies for the next few months. Also bought a few Christmas presents too and enjoyed a very good coffee.

A brief visit to Asda in Kendal for fuel enroute to Kirkby Lonsdale where we were going to walk the Lune Valley Ramble calling in at the Lunedale Bakery afterwards for one of their extra good baked potatoes.

We arrived to find the place heaving with not a parking space to be found as it was their Christmas Fair. We drove around for a while looking eventually found a lay-by a mile or so away which, fortunately, was at a point in the walk. So we did the walk from there, calling in at the Fair as we went through the town.

Today’s shot is of the Devil’s Bridge over the River Lune where canoeists were practising on the rapids caused by a limestone outcrop above the Bridge. I had another shot from Ruskin’s view which I like more but I’ve posted one from there before. I’ll see if I can get it into extras from the iPhone.

We expected the walk to be really muddy and it was in one or two places but generally it was not too bad. The worst bit being the last 500 yards back to the car down a steam bed that was supposed to be a bridle way.

We drive back into the town, found a space, managing to get into the Bakery minutes before they stopped serving food. So, in the end it all worked out fine.

Tonight we’re at the Travelodge at Fort Dunlop as we’re going to the Good Food Show at the NEC, travelling back to Kent after that.
