Twin Lakes
As I walked across from Honister Slate Mine to Windy Gap, en route to climb Great Gable, this was the view that lay before me. The twin lakes of Buttermere and Crummock Water are fed by rivers and tributaries of the surrounding fells. The morning cloud was gradually lifting above the valley and sitting on just the highest summits - High Stile (left) and Grasmoor (right). Mellbreak stands mid photo with Rannerdale Knotts opposite across the lake. Some old slate workings lie in the foreground (extreme right).
Although the forecast reckoned there was a 90% chance of completely clear summits, I climbed and descended GG in thick cloud. Good exercise though!
