The Season……..
…………………of Butterflies
This is the second of three Red Admiral butterflies to emerge from a chrysalis this season - one yesterday and two today. They were in such a rush to depart I only had time for two quick photos of this butterfly!
New Zealand’s Red Admiral resembles the European Red Admiral, but the European variety lacks the distinctive blue centred eyespots of our NZ endemic butterfly
NB - I have added the tag NZ Admiral Butterfly which keeps all my Admiral Butterfly photos together as a group in my journal.
UPDATE - for an unknown reason the tags link to the correct pages, but this photo doesn’t actually appear to be included.
This link will take you to a previous photo of a Red Admiral with its wings open and showing two of the blue eyespots.
Yesterday’s blip of the supermoon has been popular and I thank you for the visits, comments, stars and hearts.
As the moon rose higher in the night sky it changed from this spectacular colour to the more usual yellow glow.
