Join the festivities

Every year the centre of Funchal is a bright and happy festive Centre. It isn’t oppressive commercially, it’s just fun. You aren’t pressed to buy from the stalls and the girls are dressed up to smile, be photographed and to be friendly. As the week goes on, choirs (many with professional soloists from the Conservatoire) will make seriously wonderful music for the gentle crowds. There’s no trouble - just smiles, families and happiness.

The lights this year are better than ever. Three years ago they were different and a disaster (no colour) but this year they’ve excelled themselves. And the angels by the Cathedral are back. (An extra, but they don’t really show up in the daylight).

Today the weather has been marvellous with sparkle and blue skies. Perfect.
