Breaking The Ice
by Jeremy Jay
Today we moved our meeting to icebreaker Sisu, which along with the other icebreakers still waits in Helsinki harbour for the ice to become so thick that they are needed. The blip shows the bow rising on top of the water (and later ice to break it, utilising also the water pushed forward by the two front propellers of the vessel).
The extra is taken from the engine room showing the five huge diesel engines, each providing current to two generators. Six of the generators are usually used to run the two back propellers, and four to run the two front ones. Really impressive.
