Sundog over Rapaki Wharf
What an incredible sight! The sundog in this image, and also the one in Extras, was absolutely clear in the sky, in the midst of mares tails.
We'd just paddled through some rough swells which had been intensified by a rising easterly, then through the Gap to look at the amazing spoonbils, to have a cuppa on the beach at Maori Gardens. And then this sight, on the way back to Cass Bay.
What a paddle!
My WideAngle image is on it's edge! it's a tall order. LOL
The kayaks are Dodging Rapaki wharf - D & R for DecembeR.
And a sundog is a tall order for a little waterproof Olympus Tough 850 camera. I think it handled it really well. Hard to get that sun not blown out.
Wikipedia describes a Sundog as a Halo, or optical phenomenon, produced by light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. They are typically suspended in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds, high (5 - 10 km) in the upper troposphere. Thanks Wikipedia.
