A late rut-ter

The red deer rut is supposedly over, however there are always a few Stag who are not quite finished with it yet. In preparation for the rut the stag feeds well and builds up a good layer of fat on his body for two reasons - to make himself look bigger to the hinds and competing stag, and to sustain himself throughout the rut. All through the rut he has just one thing on his mind and it is not food! By the end of the rut he looks really lean as you can see here.
