“This is Glesca.... Any time you're confused, take a wee minute to remind yourself of that inescapable fact: this is Glesca. We don't do subtle, we don't do nuanced, we don't do conspiracy. .... When you hear hoofbeats on Sauchiehall Street, it's gaunny be a horse, no' a zebra... “
Through to Glasgow for a night out with friends and family. We meet at Megan’s flat - I get there first followed shortly by Owen then Mark then Claire. Angus joins us, via bus and taxi from Edinburgh, once we have relocated to the Dram.
Debs joins us and we somehow wangle a table at Paesano - a hip pizza restaurant with a refreshingly simple menu and blisteringly fast service. Bucking the trend, it’s not shockingly expensive.
Then it’s time for the youth to head off into student partyland, while the crumblies go to Munro’s to drink and listen to an equally crumbly blues band - Buchanan Street Preachers.
Claire and I stagger back to our Art Deco AirBnb on Sauchiehall Street Long before closing time. It will serve for a place to sleep, but will be getting an eyewateringly bad review from me: no toilet paper; no cups, mugs, or glasses; a window that won’t close; a bathroom sink that won’t drain; and I have to share a towel with Claire!
