Backblip:
Has to be my favourite building on the planet. There are a few corners which need a lick of paint now, but the "new" ( now old I guess ) part of the National Museum of Scotland is a playground for photographers.
The architecture simply breeds good light and the architects leave little treasure hunts all around the building, big and little letterboxes in the walls frame unexpected and spectacular viewpoints. The light contrasts with shade wherever you look and, truly, I could spend days in there just me and my camera.
I was there with The Kid. I showed her round the place explaining the architecture but also the exhibits. There's one particular exhibit there, which has a huge resonance with our family.

I grew up next ( like my house was right next to the stone ) to where it was taken from and my father was instrumental in having the recently discovered base remain in the village and a replica be built in the field where the stone was removed from.
He's no longer with us, but I wanted Lily to get some kind of understanding of issues around these things both familial and archaeological. And also to know that when she walks in there, she has a link to her own direct past. I think she got it.
