Devotion

The "Gauchito Gil" is a religious figure, an object of popular devotion in Argentina. It's historical foundation is in the person of the gaucho Antonio Mamerto Gil Núñez, of whom little is known with certainty. It is not included in the Catholic liturgy.

He was born in Pay Ubre, near Mercedes, in the province of Corrientes, around 1840 and was murdered on January 8, 1878 about 8 kilometers from Mercedes.
