Berry Balance

If I had asked this Fieldfare to pose anywhere in the entire garden it would have been here on the berries!

Whilst on the phone I spotted it sitting in a tree just outside the window which was unusual and lucky for me Mum had things to get on with so I grabbed the camera  and oh so slowly inched my way to get a shot. It flew off only to land here in the camera line. Oh yes!

Fieldfares migrate to Britain in the autumn from their breeding grounds in northern Europe and I think this is one that has been hanging round here but at a distance for a few weeks.

It wasn't until 1967 that a pair of Fieldfares nested in Britain in the Orkneys but we are more likely now to see flocks in open fields foraging on insects and fruit. I feel very lucky to have got this shot so close to the house but it was cold and I think it was hungry
