125th Anniversary of NUFC.

Spent the morning and early afternoon catching up on household chores.  Then it was time to head for Newcastle - and the match.  5.30pm kick off.  I dressed warmly as it was freezing cold  ( though there was no snow for us thankfully )

On December 9, 1892, Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End merged to form Newcastle United and today on their 125th anniversary they hosted Leicester City.

The 50,000-plus Newcastle supporters who entered the ground today were each given a free commemorative flag - which displayed the club’s 125th-anniversary crest. Some flags were black, and some white. Supporters in The Gallowgate End unveiled ten new large flags made up of newspaper headlines from key moments over the last 125 years.

During the day The Millennium Bridge, The Baltic Arts Centre  and the Central Station all had Newcastle United's crest, as well as the famous black-and-white stripes, projected on to them. And Newcastle's greatest ever X1 was announced as voted for by fans.

So the fans were in a celebratory mood when the game kicked off and hoping for a win.  It was not to be.  Newcastle lost.  The score was Newcastle 2 Leicester 3.  Leicester well and truly put a damper on the day.

My blip shot shows the large flags with the newspaper headlines and some of the other flags as well as my own commemorative black flag and todays programme.

I went straight for the bus after the game. There was a huge queue but I managed to get on the bus and got the last seat.  Glad to get home for a late evening meal of salmon, butternut squash chips and mushy peas.  Took ages to thaw out as I got very cold at the match.  Caught up with " Strictly" and " The Jungle".  Ready for bed now.
