Lebanon Parade of horse-drawn carriages
Saturday
Late morning we drove up to the historic town of Lebanon to see their parade of horse drawn carriages. It’s a very popular event, so it took us a while to find some parking. They do the parade twice- once at 1 pm, and once in the evening when some of the carriages are lit up. We have been twice before, once in daylight and once in the evening. The advantage of the daylight one is that you can fully appreciate the magnificent horses - everything from miniatures to magnificent Clydesdales - and all their livery. The last time we were there, about five years ago, we had a good viewing spot at a large open junction, where the light was good, and with the historic Golden Lamb Inn as a backdrop. This year we thought that spot would already be crowded with people, so we stopped a few blocks short. Unfortunately, it wasn’t such a good spot, as there were shadows cast by the houses at intervals along the road, so I was struggling a bit with bright sunlight and shadows. I did get a good shot of this one, however, as he was obliged to stop, in the sunlight, just in front of us! After we had seen the parade - over 70 horse drawn carriages - we bought ourselves some lunch from one of the food stalls, and had some hot cider, then walked back to the car.
In the evening, we were in downtown Cincinnati at Music Hall, hearing a concert featuring Pictures at an Exhibition - fabulous piece of music!
