A Photography Day in London
It was our annual Photography Day in London today for our camera group members. The weather was so foul this morning I was in two minds whether I should brave the icy conditions and go up to London, but then I decided to stop being a wimp and just go. It was organised by one of our members, and she had planned a wonderful day - we were not going to let the icy rain and snow prevent us from enjoying our day!
We started off at the Photographers Gallery - had coffee in the cafe first - then saw the Polaroid exhibition of Wim Wenders. Out into the falling snow to see the images on sale at the Getty Images Gallery - there were some remarkable photographs and I was tempted... but did not purchase any (see extra). Back out in to the rain and snow and we caught a tube across town to go have lunch - some extra photos of the inclement weather.
After lunch we walked to Somerset House and saw a funny and very different exhibition by a Moroccan photographer, and also saw the exhibition entitled North: Fashioning Identity which was brilliant. I decided to head home while the rest of the group went on to the Tate, and was amazed to see the most vivid sunset - after all the rain and snow today I never expected to see such an orange sky. This is facing east from Waterloo Bridge, and it is only the reflection of the sunset - to see the actual sunset look at the extra.
Gavin had an extremely busy day going from back to back meetings across the city (as their resuts were announced today) and I was amused to hear that due to the heavy traffic they could not get around London by taxi, or walk (distances too great) so they used the services of Limobike - sitting on the back of a motorbike, he was provided with a helmet, a leather jacket and trousers which was worn over his suit, and managed to get across town in record time! What a clever idea!
