Crocus kotschyanus
No apologies for taking advantage of the early sunshine to record another autumn flowering crocus. Crocus kotschyanus, named after 19th century botanist Theodore Kotschy, is another excellent garden plant. Sadly only clone in the mainstream horticultural trade (sold under name Crocus zonatus) is badly infected with a virus which stops it flowering. All mine are raised from seed which gives healthy stock.
It looks quite similar to yesterdays offering but note the yellow markings in the throat which are small blotches while Crocus pulchellus has a solid yellow zone.
Rain tonight, hoping for more sunshine tomorrow :)
