Portokali

It appears that the urge to colour co-ordinate is stronger in Skopelos Town than it is in Glossa village and that is all I have to say about the image above.

But I have plenty more to say about words;
If you thought the title sounded familiar it is probably because Portokalos is the family name in the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”
The adjective, the colour orange is πορτοκαλί (portokalEE)
The noun, the fruit of the orange tree is πορτοκάλι (portokAAli)

A bitter orange is ναράντζα (naranja) which is the Spanish word for orange, and bitter oranges are named after Seville in Spain. So why does the Greek word for orange sound so much like Portugal? And why does Portugal sound as though it means Gate of France when it doesn't?
