Salisbury Cathedral
A few very pleasant days getting away from the Big Smoke. Monday had been a Bank Holiday and I had returned to London after a long weekend in Norfolk and a friends 21st birthday party out at Bacton.
Today the pleasant drive down to Salisbury and three days of looking at the books of the Rose & Crown Hotel. Hotel in a lovely setting outside the city, the grounds leading on to fields and the Avon river water meadows. Nice rooms, good restaurant, nice bar and a very professional and sociable hotel manager.
Ideal as the following two weeks was set to be anything but pleasant - checking the books at the Penta Hotel (nowadays Holiday Inn) on Cromwell Road. Even though very new (1972), the 27 floors and 900 odd rooms was a nightmare. They did have a new fangle dangle system using a computer(?) which spewed out whole libraries of large A3 size print outs on green and white stripped paper. No chance it will catch on!
