Sober moment

This is one of the Entrances to the War Cemetary in the Reichswald. Last year I joined a Model Boat Forum and between Xmas and the New Year recieved a Mail from a guy in Canada, asking if I lived near the Reichswald. I do, well an hours drive or so. He said his cousin who was serving with the Canadian Air Force was buried there , after being shot down in 1943. He asked if it was possible for me to visit and photograph the Headstone and Mail it to him so he could show the Grandchildren where their Uncle was buried. Today was the first time that we had time and the weather was half decent.
We found it easy enough, a very helpful young man that was working there took us to the grave. As the are 7,346 graves, that was no easy task. He is buried with the rest of his crew, a total of 7, the youngest, an AirGunner was 18, the oldest, the Pilot, 21. What a waste of young lives! Next to them were the graves of an Aircrew that were shot down and killed on the 24th December 1943, Xmas Eve! What sort of person is it that plans a Bombing Raid on Xmas Eve? One thing was sure, he never went on it!
I took several photos, and we left and were very quiet on the way home, we plan to return and place flowers on the grave, just so he isn't forgotton.
