A Birthday Garland for My Mother

Today is my mother's birthday. Lilac was always her favourite flower and we tried to give her some on her birthday. She has been gone for many years now, but I still note the condition of the lilac on October the 12th. Some years it is early and past it's best. Other years the buds have not opened. But this year it is at its very best.
