St Michael's Church, Burnett
"A Christian place of worship has existed in Burnett for over 1000 years. In 1084, when Burnett belonged to William the Conqueror, the hamlet was valued at £4. Later, in the Domesday Book, the population was shown as 36 - such is progress here that this figure has merely doubled since that time.
In 1102 Burnett village passed into the control of the Benedictine monks of Tewkesbury who worshipped in St Michael's as they passed through on their way to Glastonbury."
A beautiful cold and frosty day, perfect weather for a walk (shame it was only to the docs). Then this evening to the neighbouring small village of Burnett for their Carol Service in the ancient Grade II listed church, where candles and lanterns led us to the church door. With a congregation of 55, the tiny church was bursting at the seams, the whole of the village had turned out. It was a lovely service, carols were sung and readings were read by children from the village. Then on a cold starry night we walked along the dark village lanes to the candlelit home of one of the church wardens who had kindly invited everyone back for Mulled Wine, and more Mince Pies! I think we were the only "outsiders", but we were warmly welcomed into the fold. What a wonderful evening, felt just like being in a scene from The Vicar of Dibley...
