A Flying Visit

SWMBO's sister-in-law had very thoughtfully bought us tickets for one of those 'Hop on - Hop off' bus tours and we used that for getting around some of the slightly further flung places we wanted to go to ......everything looks nice and close on the maps, but it is the scale of the maps that are so different to ours.
And scale is what it was all about with the day  --- the scale of the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the numbers at the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials..................

We had a real mixed bag of 'guides' on the buses. There was the one who pointed out every 'Starbucks' and place to eat (and even what to eat there) (his size indicated that he knew them all intimately) - there was the one who was so bored that he did it with his eyes shut whilst sitting with his feet up - and there was the young girl who obviously loved her job, her city and her history/culture and had gone out of her way to learn a lot more than was required for the job. She was a joy to be on the bus with and got a decent tip.

We had toyed with the idea of doing an evening trip to see the monuments and buildings lit up - but we were exhausted and freezing (it was the wind chill taking it well below freezing) and hadn't eaten anything so called it a night.
