Musical metals

After years of wear and tear, being through the rain and other harsh weather conditions, and long hours and usage, the once shiny silver and iron mental detailing on the bass drum has changed to a dingy and faded green color, along with a reddish brown coating. This is known as the process of tarnishing and rusting. Tarnishing is the chemical reaction that occurs when silver metals oxide, similar to rusting. When silver metals and sulfur reacted causing it to darken and create a thin coat of silver sulfide. Rusting is the chemical reaction when iron metals are exposed to water and then oxide to create the reddish brown flake, breaking and eating away at the metal. The formula for rust or hydrated oxide is Fe2O3H2O.
