Growing Pains.

This was my first thought when I saw the new branches sprouting through the bright red patches on this lopped tree. It's in a neighbour's small front garden and I wondered if it was a birch as silver birches line the verges along the road. Also there were a few shrivelled up catkins on some twigs. The tree is surrounded by a mahonia plant which has been lovely in the summer with it's bright yellow flowers.
