To London this morning to meet friends at the National Portrait Gallery for the 'Cèzanne Portraits' exhibition. I have to say I was not particularly fond of many of them; some of his earlier work in particular was painted using palette knives rather than brushes giving a very heavy, angry look, and whilst some of his later work was undoubtedly more attractive it still didn't really appeal to me. Still interesting though, especially being able to see the way his style progressed over the years.
Afterwards a quick drink in The Porterhouse followed by a late lunch in Cafe Murano in Covent Garden. The picture is of the Ballerina statue which stands outside the old Bow Street Magistrates Court near the Royal Opera House which we passed on the walk down from the station to the Gallery.
An enjoyable day.
