Cardinal Dive + Woodpecker extra
Both images behind our house (on a cloudy day)--the Northern Cardinal male was in a bush just behind our back fence; I was on him with continuous shooting and caught the dive with my wonderful lens/body combination*. The male Downy Woodpecker (he has a red crown) was captured in similar fashion.
*Canon 7D Mark II and 100-400 II--deadly for flight shots. I thought the cardinal might be a juvenile (hatched this year), since he seems a bit lighter red than a full-fledged male. However, my ornithologist email commentator says its probably not possible to tell at this time of the year.
