Diazepam and apple pie
I was given diazepam (valium basically) at the dentist yesterday before my surgery to help reduce my anxiety before my treatment.
Was concerned it would be difficult for me to wake last night for Audrey's feeds as it such a strong sedative. As it turns out, Audrey's crying can even cut through being doped. Impressive.
One wonderful side effect of the diazepam though was possibly the best night's sleep I've had since she was born. Although short and broken, I fell into a deep, delicious sleep and I felt so refreshed today as a result.
Refreshed enough to tackle a Monster Pram Walk to Urmston. Except it went terribly wrong. We set off with a tail wind behind us, blue skies and the sun in the sky. Headphones on, listening to the new Killers album (average), Audrey was on her 2 hour lunch nap that she only ever seems to manage in the pram. I had our route plotted out on the iPhone and my target was a cafe on Flixton Road someone had recommended. Except I'd put the wrong address in my iPhone and was heading to Flixton village instead. Which is 2 miles in the wrong direction from where I should have been going.
To make matters worse, the sky which was blue when we set off began to get darker and greyer the further from home we walked. It was at this point I realised I'd forgotten the rain cover for the pram. Disaster!
After 5 miles of walking it soon became obvious we were in totally the wrong place. And also obvious that it was about to absolutely tip it down. Luckily, we chanced across a garden centre with a charming cafe full of pensioners sipping tea and set up camp in there just in the nick of time.
Lunch was followed by apple pie and custard washed down with a proper pot of tea as Audrey and I watched the rain lashing down the windows of the atrium we were sat in. Audrey revelling in the attention of all the old ladies cooing at her!
In the meantime, I had to admit defeat as regards the return leg. We were stranded. The weather showed no sign of improving so I put an emergency call into my husband (off work with man flu, happily ensconced in the basement reading a novel until I called) to come and rescue us.
I don't think he could quite believe how far we'd walked when he drove the route. I'm not really sure what we would have done if he hadn't been around either. From now on, the pram's rain cover comes with us whatever. After all, we do live in Manchester.
Blip pic shows a gorgeous church building we passed on the road to Stretford. While the sky was still blue.
