Ridiculous

I don't know what it is about the October In-Service day but it's always one of my favourite ones. I think it's because we've got one term under our belt, we've made good progress with our plans and all the activities on the day are designed to improve the experiences of the children.

For some reason though it's always on this day that I end up looking faintly ridiculous! 3 years ago after an afternoon of den building and outdoor learning in our local woods the staff did me up like the queen of the forest to give me a traditional 'hen' send off as I was getting married the following day. The year after that I missed the day because I was sat at home being ridiculous having slipped on my own front door mat and ending up in plaster. Last year we were quite literally playing with fire, and thankfully I don't recall making a fool of myself then, but there I was today judging the den building competition, head lamp and all!

We had spent time this afternoon exploring multi sensory play ideas for young children and had been talking about the importance of dens and enclosures. One of the activities was to construct a den from old cardboard boxes in two teams, one team were to make a shiny den and the other a dark den, both designed to allow children to explore concepts of science and technology playing with torches and lights. (hence the head lamp) Sadly I was slightly too big to fully enjoy the den experience but the dark den was declared the winner although both teams made a splendid effort.

I'm now on holiday for the next week and can't wait to just chill out and relax. Freya has a bout of tonsillitis so it will be a very quiet weekend for us all.
