Red Admiral's Autumn Feast

Today's trip was to Nymans Garden near Haywards Heath in West Sussex.

The garden is renown for its Summer borders - and I spent one happy, informative (though showery) Summer's day on a photography workshop there a few years ago. I wasn't sure what the borders would be like this late in the season, but the estate has plenty of other seasonal interest.

The borders were past their best, but still had a good disply of dahlias and asters, Howewer one bush in particular was attracting more attention than the rest, and drawing nearer one could see the reason: it was covered in Red Admiral and Comma butterflies. Strangely, they appeared to have no interest in any other bush apart from one single heather seen later round the garden, which was again covered with them, whiel similar surrounding shrubs were ignored.
