Budding Cyclist
CyclopsJnr has been such a good and lovely boy today.
He didn't get up until 7:30.
He was thrilled with the small gifts in his stocking, and the Mack truck from the Cars film that Santa bought him - "It just what I wanted". He was delighted to see his grandparents when we picked them up for the day, and his uncles who came to visit. He was thrilled again with the lovely books and Duplo farm set they bought him. He played nicely while the grownups opened some presents too.
Granny and Grandpa bought him a new bike for Christmas. We took him out to the garage to look at it, and he said "It has pedals, and brakes, it's just what I wanted" and said thank you without prompting (which given his obvious over-excitement was extraordinary).
It was rainy and damp not at all the day to start teaching a child to move up from a balance bike to once with pedals, but when his dad held on to him to give him a little push along so he could say he'd had a go, he was off on his own before he knew it. This picture is his second solo go with mum helping. Less than 5 minutes after he saw the bike for the first time!
He had another go in the afternoon and managed to get going from a standing start and cycle right round the cul de sac before coming back to the garage and stopping himself with his brakes!!! He's been good on the balance bike, but we never thought he'd get started on this bike so quickly. Lots more work to do, but it seems like he'll be off in no time... Rewarding for all concerned.
He ate Christmas Dinner with the grownups, then had two new Paddington books before bed, which he loved.
It's been a genuine pleasure spending the day with him and his joy has been totally infectious.
Merry Christmas everyone!
