FIGGY's Sporadic Blips

By Figgy

The courtyard is accessed through an archway at the side of the house and is surrounded on four sides by buildings under covered walkways. This was mainly the servants quarters. Outside the courtyard and to the right of the archway are large wooden arched doors leading to carriage garages and it is through this archway that the staff met the servants of visiting 'posh folk'.

On three sides of the courtyard are the servants living quarters and the main kitchen for the house, now our Bakery. On the fourth side there are several small pantries used as food stores and a gun store.

Although I'm sure they worked hard I think the servants were lucky to have such a lovely courtyard outside their quarters.

As part of our development plan the courtyard has just undergone a massive renovation. The old flagstones which were in a dangerous state have been replaced and, at the request of the residents, the water feature you can see in the pic has been built.

Today we use the courtyard as a meeting area in summer for barbeques and celebrations - it hasn't been used at all this year!
