1940 WAR WEEKEND

For many years the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in Pickering - has hosted a fantastic three day 1940 War Weekend.
With hundreds of people, all volunteers dressing up in their various outfits, some hired, and some, if not most of them, are owned by their wearers and come out every year to give the visitors a real feel of the 40's.
All the forces are represented, the land girls the gentry, the police, ambulance and fire service too, evacuees with their little cases, chimney sweep, milkman.
English, Scots, Welsh, German, French and Italian uniforms all wandering around the streets with bands playing round every corner, jazz singers, banjos, jiving it really is a spectacle and well worth the effort to spend a weekend in Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors - (Heartbeat country)
So much to see, so much to do.
This year, the village of Levisham became that of the ~French village Le Visham and was occupied by German forces.
I really must spend more time there next year.
